About Soulsound

Mission Statement

We at Soulsound are dedicated to inspiring excellence in audio and raising the standards of the practice of audio engineering; thereby improving the employability of sound engineers, and making the world a better sounding place.  We are doing this by bringing you information and techniques directly from inspirational engineers who have had highly successful careers, and wish to share their knowledge and life experience.

We will interact as much as we can with you, our members, by giving you opportunities to ask questions, suggest topics we should cover and generally be helpful to you to improve your skills and make you a better engineer.  We will also provide you with opportunities to meet our tutors face to face at occasional live seminar days and hands-on weekends.

We want to show you how good you can be.

A personal note from Darryn de la Soul, founder of Soulsound

Darryn de la Soul

“Dear all,

I thought I would share what my personal drive is behind Soulsound, and why we have done all this in the first place.

Having been a jobbing engineer for a decade, I was asked to help develop and implement the Alchemea Live Sound Diploma.  All during my years behind the mixing desk I was acutely aware of how much I didn’t know, and how little opportunity there was for further learning and “professional development” when your main circuit is the London small and mid-sized venues.  Most of those venues are one-man shows, so it’s only when the occasional band brought in their own engineer did I ever get the chance to learn new techniques, generate new ideas or even just have a good old chat with someone who “get’s it”.

It was only while I was developing the course and looking for lecturers that I hit on the solution – as a young engineer at the start of your career, it is essential that you meet and spend time with older, more experienced engineers.  After I met Justin Grealy, Marcel van Limbeek and Jon Burton, amongst many others who I plan to get involved in Soulsound too, I realised how much I would have benefitted from knowing them when I was just starting out.

So this spawned the idea that I could, in fact, let other people benefit from the experience of these highly respected engineers.  We have the internet, after all.  And so the idea of the Soulsound Resource Centre was born.  We all need access to people who are a few steps ahead of us in the game so that we can progress our careers.

So here we are, bringing you great information, techniques and tips; insight into the world of high end studio recording and touring; and inspiration to motivate you and get you through the rough patches and keep grabbing those opportunities.

We are passionate about sound and all the wonders that come along with it, passionate about the paths we have chosen in life and passionate about helping you build a career to be proud of.

I wish you all the best with your future, and hope that Soulsound can help you along the way.”
